Sturm Foods Leverages Rayawave Wireless Fiber Solution
By Niladri Sekhar Nath TMCnet Contributing Editor
Sturm Foods has hired Rayawave Inc. to deploy two Gig-E Airebeam millimeterwave point-to-point links after municipal authorities told Sturm Foods that they would have to carry out some major roadwork near to the fiber conduit connecting their headquarters to their operations center with Gigabit Ethernet
connectivity.
Sturm Foods opted for Rayawave to leverage their Airebeam wireless fiber solution in particular. "The loss of our gigabit connection due to terrestrial fiber cuts from any source, including backhoes and bulldozers working in the area, would have a huge impact on our business," said Larry Katerzynske, CIO for Sturm Foods. "Our network runs mission critical applications and we needed an alternative communication solution that could be implemented quickly, cost-effectively, and provide the gigabit speeds supported by our routers."
The idea behind selecting the Airebeam system is to have an alternative high capacity network path in place. Meanwhile, the Sturm Foods IT department carries out some internal re-routing
of the existing fiber run on the Sturm Foods campus.
"The overall performance and reliability of the Rayawave system enabled us to perform the fiber re-routing process flawlessly," Katerzynske carried on, "and the Rayawave Airebeam system has exceeded our expectations with regards to performance and latency."
Rayawave's gigabit wireless bridging solutions are ideal for an extensive range of point-to-point wireless applications in the enterprise, healthcare, education, public safety and government.
"The deployment of the Airebeam system at Sturm Foods is a prime example of how the Rayawave gigabit outdoor wireless bridging solution can be used in a mission critical application where network downtime is not an option," said Heinz Willebrand, President and CEO of Rayawave, in a statement.
