Mindtouch Unveils Nexus, a New Wiki-Centric Platform
By Rahul Prabhakar TMCnet Contributing Editor
The past two years have seen commercial Wikis become increasingly popular for internal collaboration by enterprises. Cashing-in on the success of Wiki, MindTouch has unveiled its commercial wiki-centric platform known as Nexus. The product aims to help propagate community-generated content for online publishing and commerce.
Nexus is a new social media platform that facilitates creation of wiki communities, primarily targeting newspapers, e-commerce, online media, website owners, consumer, and topical sites. The platform is designed for creating communities of common interest where the generated content is contextual.
For online media, the benefits of using Nexus include higher search rankings, improved stickiness, increased traffic, more targeted ads, enhanced revenues, and strong connection with the readers. Such online communities will aid in building and sustaining customer’s trust in the brand.
Ken Liu, MindTouch’s CEO, said in a statement, “Community-generated content and social media must be a required component of a compelling web presence because users demand and expect to interact and collaborate with a site and its other users to enrich their experience.”
“To ignore that demand is not a viable response as the people will just go elsewhere, and they can go in a hurry. The question is how to tap that powerful force in a controlled way that satisfies the site owner's various objectives. MindTouch Nexus enables site owners to harness the people's voice so that it blends in with the rest ofthe site as an integral part of our customers’ web presence,” he added.
Additionally, Nexus enables content to be reused or syndicated elsewhere.
Chris Jennewein, Vice President of Internet Operations and General Manager of www.signonsandiego.com, added, “MindTouch Nexus’ capabilities fit our competencies and needs perfectly as it will generate large volumes of fresh content that will increase traffic, the ability to serve more targeted ads, and deepen our connection with the dynamic metro San Diego community.”
MindTouch Nexus incorporates the look and feel of a website. Besides being easy to use, its other integrated features include backend systems-account management, publishing, search, and advertising. Users will be able to post text, images, video, and MP3 clips, onto the wiki. With assistance from the WYSIWYG editing tool, visitors to the site will be able to easily post and share content whilst coordinating with other co- visitors and site editors.
Nexus provides tools for site editors to manage community-generated that blends with editorial and syndicated content. The user can set the pages to edit, comment, or read-only mode. These can be further indexed, linked, searched, and tagged. Users can post their content voluntarily on Nexus or write as a reply to an article or any other online content.
MindTouch has designed Nexus as a turnkey hosted service. The set up does not involve huge investments; it can be easily installed and has immediate revenue yielding capacities. The primary model also offers the option of opting for an enterprise license.
