SmartMeters, MobileNOW! Bring On-Street Parking Technology

Who has quarters? Who needs them now? With SMS text messaging SmartMeters and MobileNOW! is bringing the people of Decatur, GA the hassle and worry free new way of paying the parking meter.

Decatur's single-slot parking patrons will now be able to call a central number posted on the meter and charge their parking time remotely.

Users arrive at the space, call MobileNOW!'s automated line displayed on the meter and follow the prompts on their mobile device to enter the space number posted on the meter. StreetSmart's system then posts the time on their meter. Other cell phone parking payment systems have lacked this feature until now. Live operators also are available.

SmartMeters are so happy with there product that they are giving the users their first parking space free.

Drivers can go to www.goparknow.com to sign up for the service. SmartMeters estimates an increase in Decatur’s parking revenue and a reduction in meter enforcement costs.

"This technology will help motorists and merchants alike," said Lyn Menne, Decatur's Assistant City Manager.

The test uses 54 of about 400 parking meters in downtown Decatur. If the pilot is successful, the system eventually will expand to all of Decatur's parking meters.

"It's a great example of how our technology can make parking and parking management easier," said Kirby Andrews, Managing Agent for StreetSmart Technology.

MobileNOW! President Krista Altok Tassa predicts drivers will go for the new system.

"We are confident that motorists in Decatur will enjoy the convenience," she said.
