Hill Country Memorial Hospital Chooses NCP Engineering for VPN Client Software

Hill Country Memorial Hospital has selected NCP engineering GmbH as the sole provider of VPN client software.

The organization chose to adopt the NCP Secure Entry Client for its powerful encryption and stable IPSec tunnel to comply with HIPPA regulations regarding off-network handling of patient names, conditions and other personal data.

The bundled NCP Secure Entry Client provides Hill Country Memorial Hospital a single software solution for their Windows mobile devices that integrates data encryption, a dynamic personal firewall, Friendly Net Detection, and one-time password token and certificate support through a public key infrastructure (PKI).

“Our in-field hospice team became much more efficient by using the NCP Secure Entry Client. Rather than have to drive paperwork into the hospital and manually enter HIPPA-regulated patient data, they can instantly connect to our network from their handheld devices and securely upload anything they need to," said Ira Babb, network administrator, Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

"The interoperability of the VPN client was very important for us since we have a wide range of network technologies in place. NCP allowed us to keep everything intact,” added Babb.

Hill Country Memorial Hospital (HCMH) serves Fredericksburg and an eight-county area in the Texas Hill Country including Gillespie, Blanco, Burnet, Mason, Llano, Kendall, Kerr and Kimble counties. The hospital was established based on the community's desire for a modern hospital close to home, offering home hospice care as well. Today this non-profit, tax-exempt health care center does not receive funds from local, state or federal taxes.

"Hill Country Memorial Hospital had an interesting problem -- a built-in SSL VPN connection on their Windows mobile handhelds that allowed secure email, however their core patient recordkeeping application was too difficult to manage on every device over the SSL," said Simon Ford, international director, NCP engineering.

"Adding an IPSec VPN connection allowed total protection for all applications and a much more flexible system for future growth,” added Ford.

NCP, headquartered in Nuremberg, Germany, is a provider of application and industry-neutral communication software for highly secure data transmission in public networks and the Internet.

Core competencies are in the areas of Remote Access, IP-Routing, VPN and Firewall Technologies, Identity and Access Management (IAM), Network Access Control (NAC) as well as strong Authentication and Integration of PKI-Infrastructures.

Under the guiding principle of "Secure Communications," the firm develops products and solutions for the areas of mobile computing, teleworking, e-commerce, online banking, production data acquisition, system control (remote maintenance) and branch office networking.

NCP's technology guarantees integration and compatibility with products from other manufacturers. NCP relies on collaboration with technology partners and OEM partners, and on sales via distributors and certified system houses for national and international marketing.
