Denodo Updates Mashup Solution
Enterprise data mashups software provider Denodo (News - Alert) Technologies, Inc. today introduced its newest release of the Denodo Platform, the company's unified data integration platform designed to access, extract and merge data across any digital source to create "a new class of enterprise applications," according to the company. (A "mashup" is a Web application that combines data from multiple sources and presents them in a single coherent tool.) By building relevance across structured, unstructured and Web data sources, the Denodo Platform allows organizations to combine and query data sources in new ways.
The added functionality in the latest release focuses in three key areas: extended support for interacting with Web 2.0 and end-user mashups including REST Web Services and AJAX; intelligent automation of Web extraction processes using automatic scanners to reduce the time it takes to create and maintain Web extractions; and advanced performance and scalability capabilities that provide alternative options for efficiently handling data for complex enterprise data mashups and social networking paradigms. These additions strengthen the Denodo Platform’s already rich functionality for handling data federation, semantic transformations, and information integration across enterprise applications and data - making Denodo Platform 4.1 an ideal infrastructure layer for SOA environments and an agile Mashup builder for applications such as single view of entity, Competitive and Business Intelligence, technology and patent Watch, B2B Automation and information aggregation.
"'Mashups' and the rest of the 'Web 2.0' buzzwords, are one of the more exciting trends to emerge recently,” said David Norfolk, Senior Analyst at Bloor. “They promise to give the enterprise a different view of its data assets, treating both structured relational database data and less-formally-structured operational business data as one resource ? which can be combined with Web data resources. However, there is a dark side to this, the possibility of 'standards-based chaos' (linking data sources is now easy; merging their semantics rather harder) and the basing of decisions on out-of-date data or, more worryingly, up-to-date data of doubtful provenance and reliability. The facilities provided by platforms such as Denodo are necessary to ensure that there's an adequate level of governance applied to mashups (through automatic maintenance if the underlying resources change, for example) without compromising the agility which drove the use of mashups in the first place."
According to the company, the Denodo Platform boasts a rich Web automation functionality, lightweight and flexible data federation architecture, and extensive mashup capabilities, and is ideal for companies wanting to aggregate, enrich and share data more effectively through the incorporation of Web 2.0 technologies. Companies are using the Denodo Platform to accomplish a variety of tasks:
- Integrate data across application and organizational silos for federated data views;
- Extract information from the Web to feed other business applications;
- Structure unstructured and semi-structured data and semantically relate them to enterprise repositories and applications;
- Create and manage automated Web processes to provide a more agile way to do Application and B2B Integration
- Construct new business applications that integrate Web and enterprise data with business processes to create business value
