ORBCOMM Announces Central American Expansion

Fort Lee, New Jersey-based satellite communication service provider ORBCOMM (News - Alert) is expanding into newer and wider areas in Central America.

In a release issued last weekend, ORBCOMM said regulators in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama have shown green light for its entry.

ORBCOMM is expected to start providing services in these countries immediately.

ORBCOMM has a strong presence in many countries in the Latin American continent including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Following the regulatory approval, ORBCOMM’s marketing personnel in the region will start marketing the network, the company said.

ORBCOMM’s machine-to-machine (M2M) network makes it possible for Value-Added Resselers (VARs), International Value-Added Resellers (IVARs) and OEMs to develop a product using a single global standard.

“Latin America is a very important market for our IVARs and OEMs. These partners have already established sales and distribution channels in these markets. In addition to our IVARs and OEMs, we expect to gain market share by expanding our reseller network and hope to gain approvals from other countries in the near future,” said ORBCOMM’s COO, Marc Eisenberg.

ORBCOMM enables customers to deploy low-cost M2M networks with the ability to collect telemetry, and track and control remote assets located anywhere in the world without paying high roaming rates.

ORBCOMM’s customers include giant corporate houses including General Electric, Caterpillar Inc., Volvo Group and Komatsu Ltd.

The company's products are installed on trucks, containers, marine vessels, locomotives, backhoes, pipelines, oil wells, utility meters, storage tanks and other assets.
