QualityLogic Completes CoIPP Analysis for Eastman Kodak
By Susan J. Campbell TMCnet Contributing Editor
QualityLogic (News - Alert) has announced the completion of a Cost-of-Ink-Per-Page (CoIPP) Analysis for the Eastman Kodak Company. As a new service offered by QualityLogic, a CoIPP Analysis uses cartridge cost and page-yield to calculate and compare the cost of ink required to print one page on competitive printers.
Page-yield is determined through QualityLogic’s Certified Page-Yield Test Program, which is based on ISO standards. An independent source provided cartridge costs for analysis.
"The cost of ink is a critical factor to consider when evaluating the total cost of a printer," said Dave Jollota, QualityLogic COO, in a Tuesday statement.
"A CoIPP analysis provides consumers with information that is impartial, accurate and consistent. It gives them a new way to look at this portion of the overall cost of owning and operating a printer. We anticipate growing support for this type of information from both business and general consumers."
The CoIPP Analysis completed for Kodak measured the company’s EASYSHARE 5000 AIO printer series against 11 competitive European printers that have significant market share in France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
The analysis compared the total cost of printing a page on each printer using monochrome, color and color-photo inks. In each case, the cost of ink for the Kodak printers was lower than that of all other competitive printers.
IDC (News - Alert), a global provider of independent market intelligence, provided the cartridge-cost data. The firm collected competitive pricing during July and April of 2007. Kodak provided pricing for its EASYSHARE cartridges for the same time frame in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. In all cases, single standard-as-shipped, in-box cartridges were tested and priced to ensure like-basis comparisons.
The complete Kodak CoIPP Analysis, and the certified page-yield test report it was based on, can be viewed and downloaded at www.qualitylogic.com.
QualityLogic provides QA and QC test tools and services for the imaging and telecommunication industries. The company’s tools and services are used for conformance, performance and interoperability testing, from low-level firmware testing to high-level multi-tier application testing.
QualityLogic targets companies that develop and market printers, multifunction peripherals, Telephony/IP
products/services and client-based/mobility software.
This type of testing for total cost of ownership is essential for both businesses and consumers when purchasing a printer. Unfortunately, this aspect of the cost is not always a consideration when making a purchase. It is up to companies like Kodak to educate their buyers so that they not only understand this particular cost, but also that Kodak has outperformed so many of its competitors.
