Russian Mobile Service Provider VimpelCom Extends Contract with Harris Stratex Networks
By Anuradha Shukla TMCnet Contributing Editor
VimpelCom has extended its contract with Harris Stratex (News - Alert) Networks to supply microwave transmission solutions for its mobile infrastructure build-out through the end of 2008.
Under the extended contract, VimpelCom will supply Eclipse Super-PDH and SDH transmission solutions to specific regions within Russia. Harris Stratex Networks (News - Alert) explains that the majority of the contract is for Eclipse, an advanced nodal wireless networking platform that delivers cost-efficient transport for native Ethernet and TDM
traffic and offers a migration path to all-IP networking.
VimpelCom will reportedly use Eclipse’s Super-PDH networking capability that is capable of supporting nodal network architectures and makes backhaul
networks more cost-effective. The company points out that due to software-scalable capacity and flexible traffic interfaces, Eclipse nodal Super-PDH networks are more efficient and future proof than other wireless backhaul solutions.
“The contract extension is a testament to our continued performance as a supplier and to the performance of the Eclipse transmission system in the Russian mobile environment,” said Andrew Zmuda, vice president, Sales, Europe, Middle East and Russia, at Harris Stratex Networks in a statement.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to continue to support VimpelCom's growing mobile network, while continuing to expand our footprint in the Russian market,” he added.
VimpelCom is a long-standing customer of Harris Stratex Networks. This major mobile operator in Russia provides its services under the Bee Line GSM
brand.
Harris Stratex Networks, Inc. is an independent supplier of turnkey wireless network solutions. The company offers reliable, flexible and scalable wireless network solutions, backed by comprehensive professional services and support.
