You have seen the latest movie trailers on your iPhone (News - Alert), you have downloaded the latest songs on your glossy phone, but have you ever tried to catch the latest book excerpts on your mobile phone? Well, according to an Associated Press report, that could soon be a reality as HarperCollins revealed they will begin offering excerpts of more than dozen new releases on the browsers of the iPhone.
The Harper Web site was adapted for the iPhone by LibreDigital, a division of NewsStand, Inc. The company has been working with the publisher on digitizing its books and making them available worldwide.
A person who chooses to read excerpts of a given book on his/her iPhone can read the 10 pages of the first two chapters. He/she can also shrink or enlarge the print size according to his requirements.
HarperCollins’ digital warehouse enables the company to give quick access to the customers for the latest releases on their mobile phones. The company also encourages its customers who have read the excerpts of the books to provide their feedback on this new service. With such titles as Michael C. White's "Soul Catcher" and Michael Korda's "Ike," a biography of President Dwight Eisenhower, the company is sure to have some willing customers to receive the excerpts on their mobile phones.
Says Craig A. Miller, general manager of LibreDigital, “The ‘Browse Inside’ feature for the iPhone is part of the ongoing effort to advance technology and allows mobile consumers to tap into the power and convenience of online book discovery”
HarperCollins knows that the market for this service can be tremendous. According to Brian Murray, president of HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide, HarperCollins already digitized some 10,000 titles. Other titles which are already in the process are Faye Kellerman's "The Burnt House" and Ray Bradbury's "Now and Forever."
