Power Your iPhone Through In-seat Audio Jack

With the popularity of the iPod, and now with the pre-release hype of the iPhone (News - Alert), accessory developers have spent the bulk of their efforts creating new products for Apple’s products, ranging from covers and cases to chargers to home docks and more.

Now, frequent air travelers, who double as early adopters and may have stood in line waiting to become one of the first iPhone owners, need worry about having to lug around heavy, brick-sized power cables to charge their new toy.  InflightPower.com launched a new product called InFlightPower iPhone recharging cable to replace the typical bulky charger. In fact, users also do not need to worry about not being seated in a row with a power adapter either.

Not unlike a USB-powered charger, this new device draws its power from the passenger seat music jack on a plane and outputs regulated power to the attached USB charging cable/connector. This cable works with first class, business, and coach class seats.

The InFlightPower cable is a small ultra portable device that weighs only 3 oz and is designed for safe use on airplane, bus, or train. The product is designed to save money on expensive disposables and booster packs, according to the company.  Unlike many accessories designed specifically for the iPod or iPhone, the InFlightPower unit can be used with any mobile device that needs charging, including cell phones and game players.

The recharging cable comes with an optional battery boost feature that enables device output power continuously.  In non-battery boost mode, the cable uses an internal trickle charger that takes about five minutes to fully charge. Once it is fully charged, it outputs power to the attached device without any interruption.

The product’s inventor, Thomas Giannulli, said it is “a must-have for the business traveler, or anyone on the move who wants to keep their power charge."
