Alltel Rolls out New 'MyEconoday' Wireless Service

Wireless service provider Alltel announced Tuesday the launch of a new application called MyEconoday, which provides mobile access to  economic indicator reports and information about related events. This information is delivered automatically the user’s Outlook or BlackBerry (News - Alert) calendar.

The idea behind My Econoday is to help economy-focused users stay informed about market activity. The service, Alltel officials said, is in keeping with the provider’s focus on information delivery.

“Information is one of the highest priorities to our customers,” explained Wade McGill, senior vice president of product management at Alltel. “In the financial industry, fast, up-to-date information is not only important, it's critical. MyEconoday provides customers with information on the latest market events when it happens, wherever they are.”

Two methods of obtaining market information are provided. Subscribers can sync an Alltel mobile device to an Outlook calendar, or opt to get the info delivered wirelessly to a BlackBerry calendar.

Alltel claims that a unique feature of MyEconoday is that the service lets users customize the received information by focusing only in those indicators and events of most interest.

Four MyEconoday plans are available:
  • Economic Events -- $19.95 per month, includes updates for roughly 50 U.S. economic indicators

  • Market Moving Events -- $19.95 per month, includes corporate earnings announcements for selected ticker symbols

  • Market Movers Plus -- $31.95 per month, builds on the Economic Events plan to include corporate earnings announcements along with dividend announcements, investor conference calls, stock split activities and board meeting dates

  • Global Events -- $31.95 per month, includes economic events for Australia, Canada, Britain, European Monetary Union, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and the United States
“We are excited to join with Alltel Wireless to provide their customers with MyEconoday, an invaluable tool for anyone who can benefit from staying informed of up-to-the-minute market events,” said Cynthia Parker, Econoday CEO, in a statement. “Alltel customers will now have immediate access to in-depth and important financial information, right on their device.”

A free, 15-day trial of MyEconoday is available at www.alltel.com/econoday.
