Intermec Introduces the World's Safest Mobile Computer

Intermec (News - Alert) introduced CK32IS, hailed by the company as the world’s safest mobile computer in that it can not only survive, but perform in many adverse environments. This rugged computer carries the most extensive list of global hazardous environmental ratings, including ATEX and IEC initially and UL after some time. This means the computer can be used in all so called hazardous environments and is suitable for chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, grain, textile and mining industries. CK32IS can withstand flammable gases, vapors, liquids, dust, fibers and flyings.

The Windows Mobile 5.0-based handheld computer with a fast Intel (News - Alert) XScale PXA270 processor, 128 MB of DRAM memory and 64 MB of non-volatile Flash memory, supports the Intermec TE2000 terminal emulation software to run legacy applications. Its audio capabilities enable interactive VoIP, walkie-talkie applications, and digital recording applications.

“Intermec’s CK32IS is the ideal combination of safety and performance,” said Donald Frieden, president and CEO at SAT Corporation, a leading provider of asset tracking, data collection and integration solutions for the process manufacturing industry and an Intermec Honors Partner.

Companies will be able to lower the cost of ownership by implementing mobile workforce and decision support systems, along with CK32IS, on one computing platform, which can be used by employees working in hazardous environments, or any other conditions, explained Donald Frieden.

CK32IS is compliant with the European Union’s RoHS and WEEE regulations and is suitable for many countries, as it supports characters of all major world languages including Chinese and Korean.

“Over the last year, we have observed growing awareness and interest in devices that meet the I-Safe and ATEX standards, particularly among companies that work with or distribute flammable gases,” said Todd Kort, principal research analyst, Mobile and Wireless, Gartner (News - Alert).

CK32IS supports all the leading industry standards, including Cisco Client Extensions (CCX), Wavelink Avalanche Remote Device Management, WiFi, .NET, Java, and the Intermec Developer Library.
