Jabber Unveils Windows Desktop IM

Jabber Inc. has announced the general availability of Jabber MomentIM 5.2. This feature rich, highly programmable Windows desktop instant messaging (IM) client was developed from an entirely new code base and provides a smaller hard disk footprint, download size, and memory footprint than competing products, according to the company.

The program offers full access to and tight integration with Windows capabilities. It also has a COM-based plug-in architecture.

“Jabber MomentIM’s plug-in capabilities and programming interfaces help organizations and third party developers to easily and cost effectively create plug-ins in any language that supports COM interfaces including C, C++, C#, and Visual Basic,” said Dave Uhlir, vice president of Products and Services at Jabber, in a statement.

This brandable client delivers features including persistent group chat, notifications and presence settings, web conferencing integration, and interoperability with AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Google (News - Alert) Talk, and other IM clients.

New end-user features include a stacked tabbed interface feature that improves the user’s ability to manage multiple open chat windows. Each window is layered with visible tabs providing one click access to the window.

In addition, the program enables users to assign high or low priority to messages, and define text strings for hotkeys.

The program is also available with a series of advanced features, either in a plug-in pack bundle or sold separately. Features include quick conference, Microsoft (News - Alert) Outlook integration, history on demand to enable retrieval of group chat histories, and the ability to disable outflows.
