MySpace Unveils Movie Site

Social networking site Website Myspace, together with independent entertainment studio Lionsgate, has unveiled MySpace Trailer Park, an online community devoted to theatrical trailers of new film releases. Trailers will be featured 3 to 6 months before the actual movie release.

The trailer of the latest comedy “Good Luck Chuck", starring Jessica Alba and Dane Cook, is the first trailer for this new venture. The movie will open theaters nationwide in August 24.

As a leading lifestyle portal, Myspace’s main mission is to connect people and discover culture through blogs, music and video streaming, personal profiles, photo sharing, forums, and online communities.  Adding Trailer Park will further foster connection and create a niche community connecting movie enthusiasts with film studios.

"We expect millions of Americans will come to Trailer Park to check out the industry's best movie trailers. The demand on MySpace for premium video content is off the charts and we expect Trailer Park to speak to users who want to discover and virally share these videos," said MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe, in a press release.

Moreover, Myspace users can easily attach these trailers to their personal profiles, enabling them to share and promote their favorite trailers to their own groups or communities.

This new program by the community-driven site is an offshoot of a recent successful partnership with Michael Eisner’s new production studio Vuguru for the scripted mysteries, Prom Queen.  All 80 episodes were shown first at its official Myspace page, twelve hours ahead on any Web site.
