Hutchison Goes to Indonesia
By Divya Narain TMCnet Contributing Editor
Hutchison Telecommunications International (News - Alert) Limited, the global telecom giant, has unveiled its mobile operation in Indonesia. The Indonesian operation, PT Hutchison CP Telecom (HCPT) has been launched by Hutchison Telecom in collaboration with the Charoen Pokphand Group, a provider of GSM mobile telephony services under the 3 brand with 3G
network services overlaid in Jakarta initially.
HCPT will fill the demand and supply gap of GSM
mobility in Indonesia through its valuable products and services, extensive distribution network and innovative tariff plans.
At present, HCPT's network coverage spans almost all of the Java Island and the company plans to expand it to Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi in the next couple of years.
"With one of the largest populations in the region and a low wireless penetration rate, Indonesia is an extremely attractive market that fits well with the Group's model of pursuing growth and creating value in dynamic markets," said Dennis Lui, chief executive of Hutchison Telecom, in a statement.
"The huge growth potential combined with Hutchison Telecom's international expertise and proven track record in driving growth in new markets make us confident that Indonesia will soon become one of our principal growth markets in the years to come," Lui added.
