Opera Intros New Version of Device SDK

Opera Software is set to unveil the Opera Devices SDK 9.7, a more feature-rich, interoperable device browser to deliver “One Web” by open standards, according to the organization.

Opera  spent much of 2008on developing version 9.7 of software development kit (SDK), and the company collaborated with its partners to accelerate the browser's core performance on a variety of hardware.

This latest version of the SDK comes equipped with Opera Link, which allows end-users to synchronize their stored bookmarks across desktop computers, mobile phones and consumer entertainment devices.

“We have high expectations for Opera Link on Devices,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO at Opera Software (News - Alert), adding that he foresees operators delivering a unified, convergent Internet experience across their bundled triple-play offerings.

This allows subscribers to continue their online routines while surfing from their mobile phones, computers or televisions, said Tetzchner.

Also, version 9.7 features Opera Dragonfly tools for development and debugging, which enable customers to debug JavaScript, inspect CSS (News - Alert) and the DOM, and view any errors.

Opera Dragonfly makes developing “easier” on computer, mobile phone and now consumer entertainment devices, according to officials.

Moreover, for Opera Devices SDK 9.7, Opera has amplified Opera Zoom, which was first introduced in version 9.6 of SDK for zooming capability on devices with limited hardware. Officials said that the enhancement of this feature offers a better intuitive zoom capability.

The Opera Devices SDK 9.7 is also ACID3 compliant. Officials said that Opera continues to support the latest in Web standards to ensure ACID3 compliance on a wide variety of architectures/chipsets.

Acid3 is a test page from the Web Standards Project that checks how well a web browser follows certain Web standards, especially relating to the Document Object Model and JavaScript.

Last year in November, Opera Software released Opera Mini 4.2 browser for mobile phones, which also marked Opera Mini's official availability on the latest version of the Android (News - Alert) mobile platform.
