Proxim Wireless Technology Helped Dutch Atheletes Stay Connected During 2008 Olympic Games

The National Olympic Committee (NOC)*National Sports Federation (NOC*NSF) in the Netherlands picked Proxim Wireless’ (News - Alert) ORiNOCO AP-4000M access points for use at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Designed for maximum performance, ease-of-use and maintenance during the Olympic Games, the Proxim solution took the pressure off the NOC (News - Alert)*NSF technical staff during the event.

Proxim noted that its AP-4000M Access Points are easy to deploy and can be added to networks without requiring any onsite configuration.

Proxim was chosen by the NOC*NSF to keep the entire Dutch Olympic team connected to friends and families throughout their stay in Beijing. Since there is a five hour time difference between Beijing and the Netherlands, e-mail was the easiest form of communication for keeping in touch with people back home.

Christian Baerends, NOC*NSF onsite technical specialist, said Internet access and e-mail were important services provided to the Dutch team. The secure wireless network using Proxim technology was implemented by ZCC, a value added reseller (VAR) based in Arnheim, the Netherlands.

Ben Huigen, CEO at ZCC, said Proxim’s products are reliable, flexible and secure.

“Having provided part of the wireless infrastructure solution at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, we're really pleased to be chosen again to provide a wireless solution,” said Robert Veenis, director of international channel sales at Proxim Wireless, in a statement.

Proxim Wireless is a provider of end-to-end broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play of voice, video, data and mobility.

Earlier this month, Proxim Wireless announced that it has provided WiMAX (News - Alert) equipment to CTV Infotech, a subsidiary of Chinese Television Company Ltd., for its wireless broadband triple play solution. CTV Infotech deployed a wireless network consisting of Proxim's products from end-to-end to deliver IPTV (News - Alert), real-time news reporting capabilities, and VoIP for the Taiwanese market.
