ScaleMP Develops Aggregation Software for Dell PowerEdge Servers

ScaleMP, provider of virtualization solutions for high-end computing, has introduced its vSMP Foundation Standalone software on the Dell (News - Alert) PowerEdge server platforms. ScaleMP customers now will be able to take advantage of ScaleMP’s aggregation solutions using Dell’s PowerEdge server platforms.

The vSMP Foundation Standalone software aggregates multiple x86 and cluster-based systems into a single virtual shared memory system, thus reducing overall system management complexity while providing maximum processing and memory capabilities.

The Dell PowerEdge blade servers running the vSMP Foundation Standalone software helps customers create single, virtual Symmetrical Multiprocessor (SMP) systems with up to 32 sockets (128 cores) and up to 1 TB of shared memory.

High Performance Computing (HPC) users can also achieve additional cost effectiveness with entry-level solutions using two Dell PowerEdge 1950 III servers and vSMP Foundation Standalone software, so as to create a high-performance virtual four-socket system.

ScaleMP’s ability to aggregate multiple platforms into a single virtual system provides customers with a unified, systemic approach to compute- and memory-intensive workloads, deriving the benefits of both clustered and SMP environments, in a tightly integrated solution.

“Our ability to deliver modular, easy-to-manage systems in tightly integrated packaging also addresses growing customer challenges such as space limitations and power consumption while maintaining up to 70 percent price/performance advantages delivered through blade-based architectures,” said Tim Carroll, Dell’s HPC business development manager. “In addition to the sheer performance advantages of these architectures, customers can also realize a decrease in their total power consumption, by as much as 25 percent, because you now have a solution specifically designed to reduce the overall power-draw.”

ScaleMP's vSMP Foundation Standalone aggregation platform provides customers with up to 1 TB of shared memory for large memory requirements, 128 cores virtual SMP, with high memory bandwidth in addition to lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for applications, with simplified cluster and I/O architecture management.

“The combination of vSMP Foundation Standalone and Dell PowerEdge servers provides a versatile platform that addresses mission-critical requirements in today’s complex IT environments. This includes running everything from commercial off-the-shelf or proprietary applications that are either compute- or memory-intensive,” said Shai Fultheim, founder and CEO of ScaleMP. “Reducing system management and operational complexity through a single operating system image coupled with large-memory at cluster pricing benefits a wide range of workloads, driving more successful adoption of production-ready deployments.”
