EDX Wireless (News - Alert) today said that it has teamed with Qualcomm Incorporated to provide specialized propagation studies to MediaFLO service operators.

 

These studies are used in planning the placement of MediaFLO network base stations transmitting multicasting of video, audio and data streams to MediaFLO-enabled mobile devices, according to EDX Wireless officials.

 

The agreement with Qualcomm (News - Alert) calls on EDX to distribute and provide support for the specialized studies. Officials said that the studies will be made available to MediaFLO service operators as additional features to EDX's carrier-class wireless network planning tool, EDX SignalPro, for a fully integrated network planning tool solution.

 

“We are very pleased to join forces with EDX as part of our ongoing commitment to expanding the MediaFLO global ecosystem,” said Mike Coad, vice president of partner relations for MediaFLO Technologies at Qualcomm.

 

He also said that this collaboration allows mobile TV service providers to gain valuable insight in planning their network deployments and reinforces the openness of the MediaFLO platform.

The joint solution is currently available for approved MediaFLO service operators, according to EDX Wireless.

 

EDX Wireless is a provider of carrier-class RF planning tools. Company’s network design tools are used in engineering software products for designing wireless communications networks, including wireless broadband, WiMAX, Wi-Fi, public safety, and other mobile wireless systems.

 

Earlier this year in May, EDX Wireless announced that Fortress Technologies, a provider of secure wireless solutions, is now an EDX Technical Services Partner.

 

As a member of the EDX partner ecosystem, Fortress offers expertise with Wi-Fi and WiMAX (News - Alert) systems for the Federal government and public sector markets to EDX customers.
