Mellanox (News - Alert) Technologies, a supplier of semiconductor-based server and storage interconnect products, announced a low-latency, high-performance interconnect adapters for the IBM (News - Alert) iDataPlex system.

 

Named ConnectX 20Gb/s, these InfiniBand adaptors will help further reduce energy consumption in data centres already on IBM iDataPlex servers. These new category of IBM servers pack increased compute density thus significantly reducing the energy consumption and hence cost associated with maintaining data centre.

Mellanox ConnectX operates by consolidating I/O clustering, communication, storage and management traffic onto a single 20Gb/s InfiniBand fabric. This reduces the no. of fabric equipment in the data centres being set-up for use with multi-core CPUs, virtualized infrastructures and networked storage. The reduction in fabric equipment reduces both initial cost as well as maintenance cost in long term.
