Acquia Selected for Launch Pad Session at Web 2.0 Expo

Software company Acquia announced it has been selected among six new companies to participate in the Launch Pad session at Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. At the event, Acquia will showcase its product code named “Carbon” for assembling of community-based Web 2.0 sites using Drupal social publishing system without any customizations.

Web 2.0 Expo is a global gathering for developing the next generation Web initiatives. Through Launch Pad program, select start-up companies get to showcase their product and services to this unique public gathering.

Acquia is developing value-added software products and services for the Drupal Web collaboration and publishing platform.

Drupal, a social publishing system with over 2 million downloads, delivers wide range of applications like single or multi-user blogs, wikis, community networks, digital media portals, and web content publishing and management.

"It's an honor to be chosen as a Launch Pad company and introduce Acquia to the Web 2.0 Expo audience. Launch Pad provides a unique opportunity to demonstrate how people can implement the Web 2.0 architecture of participation with the Drupal social publishing system," said Jeff Whatcott, Acquia Communicator-in-Chief said.

“Carbon” would be ready for commercial shipment in second half of this year. The release would also include Drupal 6 core release and required extension modules. Acquia also plans to provide support and maintenance services as required by organizations or individual developers. This will help users maximize open source power of Drupal without worrying about accountability and support of commercial software.

Brady Forrest, Web 2.0 Expo co-chairman said, "We're happy to welcome these innovative startups in front of the largest gathering of the web community. He continued, "This year Launch Pad will not only spotlight some great new companies, but also give the budding entrepreneurs in the audience a taste of what it's like to be scrutinized by VCs."

Acquia has also been nominated for other rewards and recognitions. It is a finalist for Red Herring (News - Alert) 100 Award, a selection of the 100 most innovative private technology companies based in North America. In addition, it also figures in the list of top 200 organizations which are leading the next wave of innovations in internet technologies.
