Verari Systems Announces Industry's First High Capacity Blade-Based NAS and iSCSI Storage Appliance
By Raju Shanbhag TMCnet Contributing Editor
Verari Systems has announced the industry’s first blade-based high capacity storage appliance. The SB5165XL StorageServer combines a comprehensive feature-set with appliance-like manageability and unified NAS and iSCSI SAN storage networking functionality.
Verari Systems will be demonstrating its platform-independent blade-based StorageServer and DataServer solutions at the 2008 Storage Networking World Fall conference in Orlando, FL on April 7-9, 2008.
The high capacity blade-based NAS and iSCSI storage appliance for the Verari Systems BladeRack 2 XL platform is an effective alternative for enterprises to consolidate server virtualization
resources. This provides a marked improvement in cost of ownership. It also storage consolidation and is an effective alternative for enterprises to consolidate server virtualization resources.
Dan Gatti, senior vice president, marketing, said in a company press release, “The SB5165XL StorageServer appliance is the first of several new products to come from our recently announced Storage Group. We have been encouraged by the rapid adoption of our DataServer technology into the commercial enterprise grid and virtualization environments. Those early adopter customers provided Verari Systems with valuable feedback: bring the iSCSI and NAS appliance features found in the SB5165XL StorageServer to market while retaining the highest density storage footprint and energy efficiency in the industry.”
The SB5165XL StorageServer appliance offers an SB1165 StorageServer blade and up to two SB1056 disk blades, which makes it ideal for the Verari Systems BladeRack 2 XL platform and FOREST containerized data center solution. It also provides up to 24TBs of RAID 6 protected capacity. While a FOREST container solution provide up to 12 petabytes of capacity, a single platform can provide up to 24 StorageServers. This means you will get 576 terabytes of unified storage in just two data center floor tiles. With these configurations, SB5165XL StorageServer provides dense and efficient NAS/iSCSI storage with up to 50 percent savings in energy use. It also provides up to 77 percent better floor space utilization then traditional storage systems.
With the iSCSI capabilities of the SB5165XL StorageServer, the migration of data resident in server blades to networked storage is simplified and the StorageServer’s NAS-based file services are offered as complementary to its IP
network-based services. SB5165XL is ideally suited to such as Web 2.0, social networking and media achieving or any other file sharing device.
