By Narayan Bhat TMCnet Contributing Editor
Telecom equipments vendor Catapult Communications (News - Alert) revealed that Guy Simpson, vice president of Applications Engineering is leaving the company to explore opportunities elsewhere.
Simpson’s resignation came barely two weeks after Catapult announced its decision to reduce global workforce by up to 11 per cent through layoffs and early retirements. The Mountain View-based company is set to close down its Australian research and development office.
The Company expects to record total restructuring costs of up to approximately $1.9 million in the current fiscal quarter ending March 31, 2008.
Simpson, who joined Catapult in 1989 as the company's first Technical Support Manager, is said to be the key behind the company’s success in the increasingly competitive telecommunication industry.
He became so important for the company that nine years later, he catapulted to become its Vice President. He has held a number of management positions within the company, most recently as Vice President of Applications Engineering.
"Catapult has afforded me the opportunity to undertake a wide variety of technical, business and management challenges in the rapidly changing telecom industry," Simpson stated.
Richard Karp, Chairman & CEO, said, "Guy was one of our first employees and we are very grateful for the contributions he has made to the company over the last 18 years. Guy brought excellent technical and customer interface skills to Catapult and has been a key contributor to Catapult's success.”
Karp expressed his concern saying his company will certainly miss Guy's experience, technical knowledge and personal energy will certainly be missed. Guy’s resignation may come into effect from March 31.
Simpson's duties as VP of Applications Engineering will be assumed by the current officer team.
