NorthStar Software Solutions Integrates Ratchet Rating System

Service Level Corporation (SLC) and NorthStar Software Solutions reveal their joint decision to implement the Ratchet Rating System in NorthStar’s core product, Insite. The upshot of this agreement will be reflected in the Ratchet rating technology being deployed in NorthStar’s service bureaus. This will enable support for triple-play services for NorthStar’s clientele.
"Ratchet's functions add carrier-grade rating services for telephony, wireless, SMS and data services. Integrating our software with Insite allows the 1.5 million subscribers served by NorthStar to transition to these new services." says Carl Wright, SLC President. "We look forward to working with NorthStar as they deliver new services to their client companies."
The Ratchet Rating System is a rules-based rating solution. The system combines this with built-in data mediation facilities, so the solution has a double impact: firstly, the rules-based rating system offers flexible pricing and rating services, which in turn speed up the process of business change and rate plan development. And secondly, the built-in data mediation allows the system to change the rating processes’ input and output formats from binary to AMA to XML
, without programmer intervention. The essential benefit of this functionality is that the cost of interfacing with other system no longer exists.
Josh Thackery, President of NorthStar Solutions, said that, Ratchet would be a perfect adjunct to their product. According to him, both the Ratchet system and Insite share a development platform; they both have used the latest Java technology. The result is that both systems will integrate together very easily. He also added, "By augmenting Insite with Ratchet, we can now offer a scaled set of solutions to our customers that want advanced rating functions without the full cost of an independent rating engine. We expect to use Ratchet to expand our service offerings to include rated products such as long distance, data usage and utility billing.”
