MySpace, the popular online social website, has reportedly signed an agreement with Sprint (News - Alert) Nextel which makes Sprint first U.S. wireless carrier to give users access to the free MySpace Mobile Web site, which will officially launch in early 2008.
The new service will be available to Sprint data subscribers at no additional charge.
As per the agreement, users will be able to access the MySpace (News - Alert) Mobile Web site simply by clicking on a link in the Sprint portal. The redesigned MySpace Mobile will have new features and a new email interface.
Through the portal, Sprint customers will also be able to directly link to several other Fox Interactive Media (FIM) interactive websites, including IGN, FOXSports.com, RottenTomatoes, AskMen and Photobucket (News - Alert).
“Launching mobile versions of MySpace and our other FIM sites in September was a huge step forward for our mobile efforts, and we’re excited to join with our long-time partners at Sprint to take mobile Web access to the next level,” said Peter Levinsohn, president of Fox Interactive Media, in a press release. “With prominent placement on the Sprint mobile Web home page, customers will have immediate and easy-to-find access to our network of sites on Sprint phones.”
John Burris, vice president of wireless data content in Sprint said, “Sprint has been a leader in providing customers with open access to the mobile Web on their phones, and MySpace and other Fox sites are the latest example of that.”
“By providing a direct link to these sites, we’re making it even easier for customers to use their phones to access their MySpace accounts and other online services that are important to them, whenever and wherever they want,” he continued.
MySpace Mobile beta launch is an added advantage to the existing features available on MySpace including mobile alerts and other applications on devices offered by wireless carriers like Sprint.
Sprint has already been giving sports news and scores from FOXSports.com through its partnership with FOX.
MySpace’s VP of business development, Amit Kapur, said, “Our partnership empowers Sprint data subscribers with easy access to their MySpace community at no additional charge. We’re also in the process of redesigning the mobile site to provide an updated look and feel and enhanced functionality.”
