Webmetrics Launches the GlobalWatch Script Recorder

Webmetrics, a player in Web application and ecosystem performance intelligence, has launched the GlobalWatch Script Recorder which it says is the most accurate record and playback tool for the validation of rich interactive applications.

Built on Watir (Web Application Testing in Ruby) open source technology, the script recorder leverages Internet Explorer 7 to capture and display real-user interaction with web applications. The script recorder generates Watir-compatible scripts that can be utilized by Webmetrics' GlobalWatch Monitoring Service, or ported to other testing platforms implemented internally.

Webmetrics says, the solution facilitates interoperability between script-driven technologies, and the various departments responsible for managing an application throughout its lifecycle (development, QA and web operations). With the Script Recorder, developers can have increased control over the management of their scripts, and can respond quickly to application modifications.

"By delivering an open, standards-based script recorder, we are facilitating unprecedented interoperability between all script-driven technologies, as well as the various departments responsible for managing an application's lifecycle," says Peter Kirwan, Chief Strategy Officer for Webmetrics.

"This is a significant advance for those delivering web apps, as it offers both increased flexibility over the creation and maintenance of their scripts, as well as the freedom to utilize them across virtually any testing or monitoring application.  In addition, the Script Recorder greatly reduces our customer's turnaround time when their monitored applications are modified or new versions are released."

As the Script Recorder is an advanced record and playback tool, it suites for automated testing and verification of Web 2.0 and Rich Internet Applications, Webmetrics said. With this tool, users can record their navigation through a series of steps on any website to generate a simple, human readable, Watir-compatible script, which interacts directly with the IE browser. Script generated in this way can be played back locally to validate accuracy.
