S5 Wireless, a developer of next generation wireless technology for device location service and data telemetry, has launched its new client-side chip.

Asset tracking and telemetry monitoring are seeing large amount of challenges in the industry and improved market opportunities with companies eying to use technologies that matches up with their mission.

David Carter, president and CEO of S5 Wireless, said the comapny has developed “revolutionary new low-cost technology” that combines the indoor coverage, small size, power and cost benefits of RFID with the wide-area coverage and accuracy of GPS/Cell phone solutions on a single chip. S5 chip provides location accuracy at a cost that fits well within the budget of the wireless carriers and end users.

Extremely small in size, the chip cost less than $1 and operates for years on a single battery, working both outdoors and indoors, according to Carter. The chip is distributed in three forms: the S5-Chip, S5-Module and S5-Tag.

S5-Chip is just 5mm x 5mm in size and can be embedded into devices to enable advanced location-based services and telemetry capabilities.

S5-Module - This pre-constructed 15mm x 15mm radio module includes the S5-Chip and few electronic components except for a battery and antenna which makes the module completely functional. The S5-Module enables easy device location and/or telemetry integration and design de-risking where rapid time-to-market is important for the device manufacturer.

S5-Tag is a stand-alone tag which embeds the necessary electronics, battery compartment, antenna elements and external housings. This needs just a battery to make it functional.
