By Raju Shanbhag TMCnet Contributing Editor
Wireless communications startup XG Technology announced this week its plans to launch a new mobile VoIP
service in Florida this November. The provider plans to roll out similar services in 6-8 other areas soon after.
Teleclick.ca reported that the technology being used is similar in nature to WiMAX
and will be backed by Intel (News - Alert). Long-range wireless signal for the service will be based on low frequencies like those used for radio to achieve more efficient network coverage.
For 2008, XG Technology plans to roll out a portfolio of 4G solutions. These communications services will enable the Web pages, video and data to be streamed to phones and computers much faster than is possible with 2G and 3G
, Teleclick.ca said.
XG Technology indicated the new services combine the metro coverage area of xMax base stations with indoor hotspot coverage of WiFi
.
