Safecell In-flight Cellphone Patent

ASI Entertainment Inc. announced it has filed a SafeCell In-flight Cellphone under the Patent Cooperation Treaty in 137 countries.

Ron Chapman, CEO of ASI, said: "The International Patent Cooperation Treaty application is the second step in the patent process for the SafeCell concept, which allows cell phones to be operated in-flight, without interfering with the aircraft's avionics and the ground networks."

SafeCell allows cell phone users to operate their devices inside an aircraft, without any interference with the avionics and the ground networks of the aircraft. Essentially, SafeCell transforms a cell phone into a Wi-Fi communicator.

The product was originally designed for use in a passenger aircraft to access low cost voice and data services through Wi-Fi in a cell phone. A very unique feature of SafeCell is its ability to be used at any Wi-Fi hotspot on the ground. As a result, passengers who subscribe for the in-flight service will be able to use the leftover credit on the ground or vice versa.

SafeCell basically uses two unique components. One of the components is a small device that is known as the "communicator". It transforms a cellular phone into a Wi-Fi communicator. The second is a shielding accessory that enables the cell phone to be switched on inside the aircraft.

ASI Entertainment former Australian subsidiary ASIQ Pty. Ltd. had initially filed a patent application for the SafeCell concept in July 2006. The intellectual property in the concept was later acquired by ASI Entertainment Inc., the news of which was announced on February 28, 2007.

A SafeCell system is available for a price of $10,000 per aircraft. SMS will cost 25 cents. The system can also support VoiP and will cost less than $1.00 per minute.

ASI Entertainment Inc. develops passenger and crew communications systems focused on offering the most affordable solution for airlines and their passengers.
