TMCNet: NeoMedia's mobile barcode technology introduced by Spanish carrier Spanair Airlines

[January 08, 2009]

NeoMedia's mobile barcode technology introduced by Spanish carrier Spanair Airlines

(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
NeoMedia Technologies Inc, a provider of optical transaction
technology, announced on 7 December that Spanish carrier Spanair
Airlines has introduced a paperless ticketing service at eleven Spanish
airports, to replace the traditional paper boarding passes.

The company said that it has installed its EXIO scanners at the eleven
airports to allow passengers, who can receive the 2D barcode via MMS on
their mobile phone, to pass through the airports check-in desks and
security points.

Spanair estimates that some 10%, or 800,000 of its passengers will make
use of the mobile boarding pass facility in 2009.

No financial details of the implementation were disclosed.
